Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: ENTEBBE/KAMPALA TO BWINDI

Early Morning Departure: Pick up from your hotel in Entebbe/Kampala (or airport arrival). Early start recommended (6:00-7:00 AM).

Scenic Drive: Journey through the beautiful landscapes of western Uganda. Pass through Masaka, Mbarara, and the rolling hills of Kabale.

Equator Stop: Photo opportunity at the Equator line in Kayabwe.

Lunch En Route: Stop for lunch at a selected restaurant with beautiful views.

Arrival at Bwindi: Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the late afternoon.

Gorilla Trekking Briefing: Evening briefing by your guide about gorilla trekking etiquette, what to expect, and preparation for tomorrow's adventure.

Accommodation: Overnight at lodge near Bwindi with dinner included.

DAY 2: GORILLA TREKKING & TRANSFER TO LAKE BUNYONYI

Early Morning Preparation: Wake up early for breakfast and pack your daypack with essentials (water, snacks, rain jacket, camera).

Park Headquarters: Transfer to the park headquarters for registration and briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority officials.

Gorilla Trekking: Begin your trek into the impenetrable forest with experienced guides and trackers. Trek duration varies from 1-6 hours depending on gorilla movements.

Gorilla Encounter: Spend one magical hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat - watch them feed, play, and interact.

Trek Completion: Return to the starting point and receive your gorilla trekking certificate.

Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi: After lunch, drive to Lake Bunyonyi (approximately 1-2 hours).

Evening at Lake: Check into your lakeside accommodation and enjoy the stunning sunset over the lake.

Accommodation: Overnight at lakeside lodge/resort with dinner included.

DAY 3: LAKE BUNYONYI ACTIVITIES & RETURN

Morning Activities: Choose from various lake activities (included in premium packages):

  • Boat Cruise: Explore the lake's islands including Punishment Island and Lepers' Island
  • Nature Walk: Walk along the lake shores with beautiful views
  • Birdwatching: Spot numerous bird species including kingfishers, herons, and cormorants

About Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi ("Place of many little birds") is a stunning crater lake in southwestern Uganda. At approximately 900m deep, it's Africa's second deepest lake. The lake features:

  • Packing Essentials: Waterproof hiking boots, rain jacket, long pants, gloves, insect repellent, camera with extra batteries, swimwear for Lake Bunyonyi.
  • Health Requirements: Yellow fever vaccination certificate required. Consider malaria prophylaxis.
  • Age Limit: Minimum age for gorilla trekking is 15 years.
  • Best Time to Visit: June-August and December-February for drier conditions. Gorilla trekking possible year-round.
