Kenya covers approximately 580,367 square kilometers in East Africa, with diverse landscapes ranging from snow-capped mountains and vast savannahs to pristine beaches and coral reefs. The country is bordered by Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and the Indian Ocean.
Nairobi, the capital city, is the only capital in the world with a national park within its boundaries. Kenya's tourism infrastructure is well-developed, with excellent accommodations ranging from luxury lodges to budget campsites, making it accessible to all types of travelers.
Kenya is synonymous with safari, offering some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities on Earth. The annual Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles cross from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara in Kenya, is considered one of the "Seven New Wonders of the World."
Beyond the wildlife, Kenya boasts stunning geographical diversity: Mount Kenya (Africa's second-highest peak), the Great Rift Valley with its lakes and escarpments, lush highlands, arid deserts, and 536 kilometers of Indian Ocean coastline with beautiful white-sand beaches and coral reefs.
Kenya's cultural heritage is equally rich, with over 40 ethnic communities including the world-famous Maasai, Samburu, Turkana, and Swahili coastal communities. Each group has unique traditions, crafts, music, and dances that visitors can experience through cultural visits and community tourism projects.
Kenya's most famous wildlife destination, the Mara is home to the Big Five and hosts the spectacular Great Migration from July to October. The reserve offers excellent game viewing year-round, with large populations of lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and countless other species. Hot air balloon safaris provide breathtaking aerial views of the landscape and wildlife.
Famous for its large elephant herds and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. Amboseli is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephant families up close. The park also contains swamps where hippos and many bird species can be seen, and open plains with giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species.
Together forming one of the world's largest game reserves, Tsavo is known for its "red elephants" (colored by the red dust), the Mzima Springs with underwater hippo and crocodile viewing, and dramatic landscapes including volcanic formations, rivers, and plains. Tsavo West is more mountainous and wetter, while Tsavo East is flatter and drier.
Located in northern Kenya, Samburu is famous for the "Special Five" species found only north of the equator: Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and Beisa oryx. The Ewaso Ng'iro River supports abundant wildlife including elephants, lions, and leopards. The reserve offers a more rugged, less crowded safari experience.
Known for its huge flocks of flamingos that turn the lake shoreline pink, Lake Nakuru is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 450 bird species. The park also protects both black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, and a large population of baboons. The surrounding landscape includes cliffs, waterfalls, and acacia woodlands.
Kenya's diverse cultures offer rich experiences for visitors:
One of Kenya's unique advantages is the ability to combine a wildlife safari with a beach holiday. After the dust and excitement of safari, unwind on Kenya's beautiful Indian Ocean coastline:
Voted Africa's leading beach destination, with pristine white sands, coral reefs, and luxury resorts.
Part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, excellent for snorkeling, diving, and turtle watching.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site with preserved Swahili architecture and culture, no cars allowed.
Kenya is a global leader in wildlife conservation, with several notable success stories:
Kenya has successfully increased its black rhino population through intensive protection in parks like Nairobi National Park and Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Innovative community-based conservation models like those in the Maasai Mara have created economic incentives for local communities to protect wildlife.
Kenya has dramatically reduced elephant and rhino poaching through increased ranger patrols, technology, and community engagement.
Kenya offers the complete African safari experience: breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, rich cultures, and warm hospitality. Whether you're witnessing the Great Migration, watching elephants against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro, relaxing on tropical beaches, or engaging with local communities, Kenya delivers memories that will last a lifetime.
With decades of experience in safari tourism, excellent infrastructure, and English as an official language, Kenya is one of Africa's most accessible and rewarding destinations. From budget camping safaris to ultra-luxury experiences, Kenya has options for every traveler and budget.
