Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Destinations
Congo - The Heart of Africa
The Democratic Republic of Congo offers some of Africa's most adventurous and authentic wildlife experiences. Virunga National Park, Africa's oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to about one-third of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. The park also features the magnificent Nyiragongo Volcano with its lava lake, one of only four in the world. Congo provides a more rugged, adventurous alternative to gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda.
Beyond Virunga, Kahuzi-Biega National Park offers lowland gorilla tracking, while Garamba National Park in the northeast hosts elephants, giraffes, and the last remaining northern white rhinos. The Congo River, the world's deepest river, offers unique boat safaris. While travel in Congo requires more planning and flexibility, it rewards visitors with uncrowded parks, authentic cultural experiences, and the feeling of true exploration. The country's guides are exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate about conservation.
Explore DRC's incredible destinations from active volcanoes and mountain gorillas to vast rainforests, mighty rivers, and unique wildlife. Discover Africa's second largest country with unparalleled natural wonders.
