Good to Know

Permit Booking

Gorilla, chimpanzee and golden monkey permits are limited and issued on a first-come basis. We recommend booking at least 4–6 months in advance, especially for travel in the June–September and December–February peak seasons.

Physical Fitness

A moderate level of fitness is helpful for forest trekking, as trails can be steep, muddy and at altitude. Porters are available to carry packs and offer a helping hand.

Health Requirements

Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into Uganda and Rwanda. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is also required.

Best Time to Visit

Peak Season: June–September & December–February (dry seasons, best for trekking). Shoulder Season: March–May & October–November (green season, fewer tourists).
